The client, a newsagent in Essex, was operating their business from a pre-existing Victorian house which had been converted into a shop front. Whilst the shop front operated well, there was very limited store room space, dilapidated toilet facilities and inadequate parking facilities for the owner in the rear of the property.
To correct these problems the client required the building of a large rear extension incorporating a significant store room and toilet facilities. In addition they wanted a separate garage to be built in the rear garden and a party wall in co-operation with their neighbours.
The client was very pleased with the completed extension and outbuilding. The outbuilding serves as a garage for the client and they have twice the amount of store room space than before. We have since completed a number of other projects for this client at different locations across East London and Essex.
This was a significant project. To start large trees had to be removed from the rear of the property in a tight timescale. This was achieved through efficient project management and effective manual labour.
Following this, excavation work were required but there was an issue with this phase of the project. The ground in this particular part of Essex is mostly clay. Clay rises over time when trees are removed as the trees are no longer soaking up ground water. In addition, coniferous trees were present in the immediate area which resulted in the foundations having to be three metres deep for a single storey extension/building.
With our years of experience and expert subcontractors we were successful in excavating to the appropriate depth. The tasks at this point were the bricklaying, roof building, installation of windows and doors, interior rendering and so on. These were completed to the highest standard.
